Why should any of the Gen Z's need to read a book for? According to most of em, they come out of the womb with high intellect and supreme literacy.
I changed my mind late taking band & Band Teacher said “I need a Trombone player, that’s it. Up to you. Here’s a book!” I was playing 1st Chair Trombone end of year.
Later in high school band teacher said “I need a Tuba player. Will you do it?” I said “yeah, sure!” He hands me a book & after 1 wk I played Tuba; 2 Letters of Rec from USN Band!

If kids are not reading at the proper level why are you passing them to the next grade. If they can only read in the second grade and they're in the fifth grade send them back to the second grade.

If they can't read, how they communicate? With emojis? On facetimes? Reading increasing vocabulary, if you have lesser vocabulary, you have lesser words to express yourself, your identity, your individuality. If you can't wait or learn to wait, you can't grow in emotional maturity and easier to gaslight you, manipulating your emotionality… Is it what we want for our future, for our children? Bunch of eternal teenagers unable to do anything without AI? Cause it's looking like that… But they developing something else. Something than their own parents have forgot. We didn't read couple centuries ago, only scholars were reading and, we survived. If not, we wouldn't be here, right? We survived also before writting was created… We had developped other skills to survive. Blinds developping their other sens, defts too. That's the point of all that. I think their teachers, like their parents are panicking for nothing. Young alphas are amazing, trully autonomous and that is very encouraging for the futur. They will not live like us, that's for sure. However are we living into caverns like our ancestry or into little houses in wood with lot fields around? No. We have evolved otherwise and they will evolve otherwise too.

Part of the problem I suspect is the rapid language of the parents/teachers generation. It’s like listening to a robot. Where’s the space and time between words? Kids can’t think when words are machine gunned at them. Where’s the love and feeling in language gone?

Schools need to take tech out of the class until at least 9th. Forcing kids to deal with (old school) ways. So they can read and write.
If they can't read, then that's shitty teachers. They need to be held accountable. My kids are 9 and 11 and they don't enjoy reading as much as I do (gen x) but they do it every single day. At school and at home. My eldest loves reading more and more every year. So gotta say, shitty teachers = underperforming kids. Zero to do with technology.

Teachers talking about how their students not knowing how to read write, or how to do math, first what grade are you teaching, and you need to be fired as well as all teachers in grades below you, because it's mostly your fault for not teaching.
